Types of Online Slot Tournaments

There are two main types of slot tournaments you will find online. These are Scheduled Tournaments and Sit and Go Tournaments. This article explains the differences between to the two and looks at the pros and cons of each tournament format.

Scheduled Tournaments

This is the main type of tournament that we list here at As the name says, these tournaments have a fixed start time and end time. Tournaments can go for as short as five minutes or as long as a month or more.

You can enter and play in these tournaments any time they are open. The fact that the tournaments can go on for a month or more means they can offer big prize pools. For example the Grand Slam of Slots in 2009 has a prize pool of over $1,400,000 with a top prize of $1,000,000.

  • You can play open tournaments any time
  • Offer the biggest prize pools
  • You can often Re-Buy to get another chance

  • You might have to wait for the final results
  • Lots of players make winning harder

Sit and Go Tournaments

These tournaments do not have a fixed start time. They are open until enough players enter and then the tournaments starts. In general these tournaments run for a very short time and have a smaller number of players compared to scheduled tournaments. This leads to lower prize pools in general.

The fact that you have less players in the Sit and Go Tournaments means you have by the nature of the game a better chance of picking up a prize. If there are ten players and prizes for the top five you have a 50% chance of at least winning something.

  • You will get the results quickly
  • Less players to compete with

  • You have to wait for all of the players
  • Lower prize pools
  • No Re-Buys allowed

Which Type is Better?

There is not really an answer to this question as it is really based on what you are looking for. It you want a shot at big prizes then you have to go for the scheduled tournaments. If you want a better chance of winning then the Sit and Go tournaments do offer a better chance of winning although the amount you can win is lower than the big prizes for the scheduled tournaments.
